Affidea to Launch Groundbreaking Private Clinic in Wimbledon

Affidea, a leading European provider of community-based polyclinics, advanced diagnostics (imaging and labs) and specialised services, is set to bring the innovative model of care to the UK with the announcement of a new, state-of-the-art private clinic in Wimbledon. In a first-of-its-kind development, the facility will be located within the Wimbledon Quarter, a space that has been recently transformed into a mixed-use neighbourhood hub. The Affidea clinic will bring care closer to the community in a modern out of hospital setting which is  high-quality, accessible and convenient.

Affidea successfully provides its model of community-based care across Europe and it's very excited to bring this to West London for the benefit  of the community.

This new 30,000 sq. ft clinic will house private GP services, an urgent care clinic as well as a large imaging department boasting the latest diagnostic equipment and Specialist outpatient treatment rooms. The new healthcare facility will also include surgical capacity with 2 laminar flow theatres and one day case theatre included in the plans. The new clinic will be home to several medical specialties where Affidea have strong experience such as orthopaedics, cardiology, urology, women’s health, dermatology and neurology.

Construction on the new facility is already underway and the new clinic will open in mid-2026.

Barry Downes, CEO of Affidea UK & Ireland, commented:

“We are excited to unveil our latest investment in the UK. To the best of our knowledge, this will be the first hospital developed within a live retail environment – a truly innovative step that aligns with how people live and move today. Our new Wimbledon clinic will offer patients rapid access to leading specialists, advanced diagnostics, and outstanding surgical care – all under one roof.”

Dr Charles Niehaus, Executive Director for Affidea Group, stated:

“This investment is part of a broader shift in how we define access to care. By integrating advanced clinical services into the fabric of urban neighbourhoods, we’re not only improving physical access, we’re reimagining the role healthcare plays in modern cities. It’s about moving beyond the traditional hospital model to deliver proactive, preventive, and patient-led care where it’s needed most. Wimbledon is a bold first step in the UK, but it reflects a scalable, pan-European vision that’s at the core of our long-term strategy.”

Alex Woolf, COO at Romulus, the property investor and developer behind mixed-use scheme Wimbledon Quarter, commented:

“We’re delighted to welcome Affidea to Wimbledon Quarter. This pioneering, patient-first hospital brings world-class healthcare into the heart of the community.  With a growing mix of exciting tenants across retail, F&B, leisure, wellness and now healthcare, Affidea’s arrival further underpins Wimbledon Quarter as a truly mixed-use destination; one where people can access exceptional services close to home.  We’re proud to support this forward-thinking clinic and look forward to seeing it come to life.”

The Wimbledon clinic marks the launch of the first ‘Affidea Clinic’ in the UK, building on the company’s long-standing commitment to “out-of-hospital” care models that have seen strong uptake and success across Europe. This patient-centric approach delivers fast, expert-led care without the need for lengthy hospital visits, improving outcomes and convenience for patients.

Affidea has been operating in the UK since 2021, following the acquisition of Fortius Clinic, a Centre of Excellence in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal care. Earlier this year, AM Diagnostic Services also joined the Affidea Group, further expanding the company’s footprint and service offering across the country.

“We are bringing Affidea’s proven model of healthcare innovation to the UK, combining digital excellence, clinical expertise, and a deep focus on patient experience,” added Downes. “This is just the beginning – we have ambitious plans for growth and look forward to making further announcements in the coming weeks.”

With more than 410  centres across 15 countries, Affidea continues to lead the way in delivering modern, accessible and high-quality care across Europe, close to the communities we serve.
