Affidea CMO Message on World Cancer Day!
On February 4th, as every year, we celebrate World Cancer Day. This year’s theme of “Close the care gap” is very much aligned with Affidea’s commitment to providing the very best in cancer care, preventive screening and diagnosis to the widest possible spectrum of patients across our varying geographies.
In 2020, 2.7 million people in the European Union were diagnosed with cancer, and another 1.3 million people lost their lives to it, according to the European Commission. Approximately 40% of cancer cases are preventable, and many are treatable. Whilst the number of cancer survivors is increasing, unfortunately, so is the number diagnosed and the survival rates vary widely across different economies.
We realise that our excellence in cancer care and other treatments depends on both our state-of-the-art technology, as well as on methodology and the human element – our committed and professional medical staff, and all our colleagues, who devote their care and energy to offer outstanding quality standards and deliver tailor-made treatments to our patients.
We will never stop fighting against cancer, aiming to always be ahead of it.
Alongside our advanced diagnostic and outpatient services, we have built a strong business line in cancer care across the Affidea Group in countries such as Bosnia, Poland, Romania, Turkey, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.
We are proud of our achievements across this wide range, notably of our center in Banja Luka, the only radiotherapy center in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our recent investment in two new True Beam linear accelerators was recognized with a Center of Excellence Award from Varian. At the same time, in Romania, we received the Center of Excellence in Oncology recognition from GE Healthcare. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate both teams on their outstanding efforts!
On World Cancer Day, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all our medical professionals and health operators, dedicated to carrying on this legacy and continuously taking it to the next level.
